Fundraiser by Daniella Carling : Help support Steve and his family after fire
Hi all,
We are circulating a GoFundMe campaign for Steve Ploubidis, who is the father of Gold Foundation’s Vice President, Leon Ploubidis and good friend of the Secretary, Frank Pangallo MLC.
Steve runs a mobile food trailer serving yiros and loukoumades. Hewas planning to hire some of our autistic superheroes as staff as we planned to partner with him via Gold Foundation’s ‘Shine Like Gold!’ Mobile Café social innovation project.
On 4 September 2024, Steve’s small business, Plato’s Greek Chargrill, caught fire and burned down. When the roof started to collapse in the back kitchen, Steve was still inside trying to put the fire out to save Plato’s. Sadly, Steve has sustained third degree burns affecting 70% of his body. He is expected to remain in hospital for several months.
Steve and his beautiful wife Katya have 3 young kids, who are two, six, and eight years old. Without Plato’s and with Steve in the hospital, Katya is unable to afford their mortgage and day-to-day expenses for her and the kids. Steve will also have ongoing medical expenses for at least the next 18 months following multiple surgeries (with more scheduled in the coming weeks).
Katya is applying for support where possible, as insurance unfortunately won’t cover the loss.
Leon’s family would be so incredibly grateful for donations of any amount to help, Steve, Katya, and their kids during this time.
Plato’s meant so much to Steve for so many reasons. He hopes to be able to see everyone again as soon as possible (and get back to serving amazing Greek food!!).
